JFK
JOHN F. KENNEDY international airport
John F. Kennedy International Airport, originally known as Idlewild Airport, officially opened in 1948 to relieve overcrowding at LaGuardia. Built on over 4,900 acres in Queens, New York, it quickly became a major hub for international travel. In 1963, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the airport was renamed in his honor. Over the decades, JFK has seen numerous expansions and innovations, including the opening of the iconic TWA Flight Center in 1962—a masterpiece of mid-century modern architecture—and has served as a gateway to America for millions of travelers.
